Great mix with some fresh tracks I’ve not heard.
Is on-demand streaming done? →
Arrington is spot on, although this isn’t new news. Not sure why this point wasn’t more widely reported back when these deals were happening.
The startup he mentions is no doubt playlist.com, which is the largest music service out there now apart from iTunes and Myspace.
On-demand streaming won’t work (legally) until the “star system” of the majors is done, because...
Last.fm sub fee outside US, UK & Germany
Today, co-founder Richard Jones confirmed Last.fm will, beginning March 30, charge EUR 3 ($4) a month for the existing “Last.fm Radio” - a catch-all term that refers to personalized, back-to-back full-track streams. The fees will apply everywhere except the UK, U.S. and Germany—Last.fm is effectively raising the pay wall everywhere it doesn’t have a significant user base.
It’s...

Oops, my bad math: If radio paid same as online radio, RECORDING industry rev would grow $10bn to $24bn (i.e. more than double)
Radio *should* pay royalties: http://bit.ly/33B3MG. If radio paid same as online radio, radio industry rev would grow $20bn to $34bn : )
Tellingly, both my FB and Tumblr pages are beginning to resemble my Twitter page

Digital music -- top 5 services
While I’ve lost trust in these Compete.com rankings (I noticed it was 50% off vs Google Analytics in measuring traffic on 8tracks), I thought it interesting to check in on the top 5 digital music companies (ignoring iTunes and MySpace for the moment).
It looks like playlist.com’s getting kicked off of MySpace has had a significant impact, and it’s now below imeem’s...

Just realized I’ve pretty much replaced del.icio.us with instapaper, which does rock.
A quiet Sat night: Damages, Felix Rohatyn on Charlie Rose, and The Taking of Pelham One Two Three from 1974
Heading for a run on nearly-warm night
Beautiful day out. Supposed to reach 65.
Was living in London last time the market was at these levels. Actually, that doesn’t seem like that long ago.
Has anyone else noticed Compete.com is WAY off? For 8tracks, it’s 50%. Compete says 18k (http://bit.ly/gWuig), Google Analytics says 36k.
What rock have I been living under. Chromeo is excellent.
Slept for 12 hours and feeling much better.
At billboard music & money conf. My panel was about how there isn’t any of latter for former.
